Obtaining Medical Records

Once you have been pre-approved by our program at OneWorld Generations, our dedicated screening team will initiate the process of obtaining your medical records. This is a crucial step in ensuring a comprehensive understanding of your medical history and suitability for the surrogacy journey.

Based on the information you have provided during the application process, our team will request various medical records. These may include, but are not limited to, your previous OB/GYN records, labor and delivery records for each previous pregnancy you have had, recent pap-smear results, and any other pertinent medical information that is relevant to your reproductive health.

Once we have gathered all the necessary records, our screening team will carefully review and analyze them in a thorough and comprehensive manner. This review process aims to assess any potential risks or concerns that may impact your ability to carry a successful pregnancy as a surrogate. It is important to note that our team conducts this review with the utmost transparency, ensuring that any identified risk points are communicated to you promptly and openly.

Pre-Screening

Once you have submitted your application, our program manager will reach out to you via phone call to discuss your application details and get to know you better. This conversation will cover various aspects of your surrogacy journey, including your motivation to become a surrogate, your health history, family background, support system, and more.

If you are married or in a partnership, we strongly suggest that your partner joins the interview.

If you are single, we recommend having your Primary Support Person, such as your parents or siblings, join the call as well.

During the interview, we will conduct an in-depth communication with you, examining your motivation to become a surrogate, discussing your support system, exploring your pregnancy history, understanding your family dynamics, assessing your characteristics and personality, examining your interpersonal relationships, discovering your interests, and addressing your expectations towards intended parents and your life experiences.

Matching Process

We will help you to match your ideal intended parents based on your expectations. Firstly, we will send intended parents’ profile to you through online portal or email. If you are interested, we will arrange conference call for you and intended parents to know more of each other. The conference call is normally through Zoom, so please make sure the Zoom is installed on your laptop or your cell phone. Therefore, we give you the first opportunity to accept or turn down profile(s) and we use both profile exchange and conference call to ensure both parties have an opportunity to ask questions and to ensure the match option is a good fit. If you feel comfortable after meeting with your potential Intended Parent(s), your match will be confirmed shortly and you will be moving to official screening process.

Clinical pre-approval

After a match has been established between you and intended parents, it is important to ensure a smooth transition by providing the necessary information to the intended parents’ IVF clinic. At OneWorld Generations, we facilitate this process by sending your medical records to the clinic for review. These records encompass your complete pregnancy histories, as well as relevant prenatal and delivery records. Occasionally, the clinic may request additional medical information to support their review process. Once the review is complete, the clinic will pre-approve you based on their evaluation.

It is worth noting that at OneWorld Generations, our screening team thoroughly reviews your records beforehand. Any potential risks or concerns are communicated and resolved with the surrogates prior to sending the records for pre-approval. As a result, our records review passing rate is exceptionally high, ensuring a higher likelihood of successful pre-approval by the IVF clinic.

Intended parents open and fund escrow accounts

After your records are pre-approved by the clinic, OneWorld Generations will require intended parents to open and fund an escrow account with a sufficient amount. This is done to prioritize the protection and financial security of our surrogates. The escrow account acts as a neutral third-party entity, holding and distributing funds throughout the surrogacy journey. It ensures that the intended parents have the necessary funds to cover expenses and compensation. Moreover, the escrow account promotes transparency, accountability, and provides a mechanism for resolving any potential financial disputes. This requirement underscores our commitment to safeguarding the well-being and financial interests of our surrogates.

Psychological screening

After your records have been pre-approved by the clinic, OneWorld Generations will arrange a psychological screening for you with a licensed psychologist. The purpose of this screening is to further assess your mental well-being and readiness for the surrogacy journey.

During the screening, you will have the opportunity to engage in interviews and discussions with our psychologists. They will explore various topics related to your motivations, expectations, and understanding of the surrogacy process. The goal is to ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the emotional complexities involved and that you are prepared for the unique challenges that may arise.

The psychologists will also evaluate your coping mechanisms, communication skills, and ability to establish healthy boundaries. These assessments are important as they help determine your capacity to navigate potential emotional stressors that may emerge during the journey. Additionally, the psychologists will inquire about your support system, both personal and professional, to ensure that you have a strong network in place to provide emotional support throughout the process.

Medical screening

The medical screening process for surrogates aims to assess their overall health, reproductive function, and potential medical concerns that could impact the surrogacy journey. This comprehensive evaluation includes a range of tests such as hormone level checks, infectious disease screenings, genetic testing, and imaging studies like ultrasounds or hysteroscopies to evaluate the uterus and reproductive organs.

The IVF clinic’s medical team thoroughly reviews the test results to determine the surrogate’s physical readiness for carrying a pregnancy. Factors such as hormone levels, uterine health, and any potential risks or conditions that could affect the success of the surrogacy journey are carefully considered.

The primary objective of the medical screening process is to prioritize the health and well-being of both the surrogate and the intended parents. It plays a vital role in identifying any potential medical obstacles or issues that may arise during the surrogacy process. By conducting a thorough evaluation of the surrogate’s medical profile, the IVF clinic can make informed decisions and provide appropriate medical care throughout the journey.

Once the surrogate receives medical clearance from the IVF clinic, OneWorld Generations will assist in coordinating the necessary legal processes.

Legal process

The legal process for surrogates and intended parents involves two key parts: drafting the surrogacy agreement and obtaining a pre-birth order to establish parental rights during the pregnancy.

The first part of the legal process entails drafting a comprehensive surrogacy agreement. This agreement outlines the rights, responsibilities, and expectations of both the surrogate and the intended parents. It covers important aspects such as compensation, medical expenses, legal parental rights, and any specific arrangements or preferences agreed upon by all parties involved. The surrogacy agreement is carefully reviewed, modified if necessary, and ultimately signed by the surrogate, intended parents, and their respective legal representatives.

The second part of the legal process involves obtaining a pre-birth order. This is a critical step to establish the intended parents as the legal parents of the child before birth. The pre-birth order is typically obtained during the middle stages of the pregnancy and varies based on the legal requirements of the jurisdiction involved. It ensures that the intended parents’ names are listed on the birth certificate, granting them legal parental rights from the moment the child is born.

Transfer

Once you are legally cleared, the IVF clinic will guide you through the preparation process for the embryo transfer. This typically involves hormonal medications to synchronize your menstrual cycle with the intended mother or egg donor’s cycle. These medications help create the optimal conditions for embryo implantation.

During this preparation phase, you may undergo regular monitoring through blood tests and ultrasounds to ensure that your uterus is receptive and ready for the transfer. The IVF clinic’s medical team will closely monitor your hormone levels and uterine lining thickness to determine the ideal timing for the transfer.

On the day of the transfer, you will visit the IVF clinic for the procedure. The embryos, which have been carefully prepared and selected, will be placed into a catheter. Under ultrasound guidance, the catheter will be inserted through your cervix and into your uterus. The embryos will then be gently released into the uterine cavity. The process is typically quick and minimally invasive, and you will be able to rest for a short period before going home.

Following the transfer, you will be advised to take it easy and avoid strenuous activities for a brief period. The IVF clinic will provide you with specific instructions regarding any necessary medications, rest, and any precautions to take during the early stages of pregnancy.

Pregnant

Congratulations ! You have very high chances to get pregnant.

Around ten days after the transfer, you will be tested for human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) levels. If the initial HCG level is not significantly high, the IVF clinic may arrange for a second test to be conducted two days later. This double test helps monitor the progression of HCG levels and provides valuable insight into the development of the pregnancy. The tests can be conveniently done at a laboratory near your residence, ensuring ease and accessibility for you.

After you become pregnant

If you become pregnant, it is crucial to continue taking the medications as prescribed by the IVF clinic until the end of the 10th week. Following the recommended protocols is extremely important during this time to minimize the risk of miscarriage. Around week 6 or 7 of your pregnancy, you will be scheduled for a heartbeat testing to monitor the development and viability of the pregnancy. At around 10 to 11 weeks, you will be discharged from the IVF clinic and your ongoing prenatal care will be transferred to an obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN). From this point forward, your prenatal check-ups and care will follow the same routine as a regular pregnancy. Your OB/GYN will oversee your pregnancy, conduct regular check-ups, and provide the necessary guidance and support throughout the remaining duration of your pregnancy.

Delivery

At OneWorld Generations, approximately 2 weeks before your expected delivery date, our team will take care of sending the necessary documentation, including the pre-birth order and surrogacy agreement, to the hospital where you will be delivering the baby. We will also make sure to establish contact with the hospital’s social worker to ensure that they are aware of the surrogacy arrangement and that it is properly documented in their records. This communication is essential to ensure that the hospital staff is well-informed and can provide the appropriate support and care during the delivery process. At OneWorld Generations, we will work closely with the hospital and all relevant parties involved to ensure a smooth and successful delivery for you and the intended parents.
